Polygon POL Staking

Polygon secures its proof-of-stake network with its native token, which has transitioned from MATIC to POL. Holders delegate POL to validators and share in staking rewards. Delegation is non-custodial: you connect a wallet you control and choose which validator to back.

Rewards come from protocol emissions and network fees, distributed to delegators after each validator’s commission. As with other networks, the rate is not fixed; it depends on total stake, emission schedules, and the validator you pick. Historically Polygon staking has offered a low-to-mid single-digit annual return, but you should treat any specific number you see as a snapshot rather than a promise.

The main risks are validator-related and structural. A validator with high commission or poor uptime reduces your rewards, and delegated stake is exposed to the correctness of the staking smart contracts. Unbonding takes time, so your POL is not instantly liquid when you decide to stop. Because the MATIC-to-POL migration created confusion, this is also a period when scam ‘migration’ and ‘staking upgrade’ sites are especially active, engineered to trick holders into connecting wallets to malicious contracts.

To stay safe, always begin from polygon.technology, reach the staking app only through official links, and verify the URL in your browser. Review a validator’s commission and performance before delegating, and understand the unbonding delay before you rely on the funds. Genuine Polygon staking never requires your recovery phrase and never asks you to ‘validate’ your wallet by sending tokens somewhere.
