What is Rewards Rate?

How fast a staking or earn product pays out rewards, usually shown as an annual percentage that can change over time.

The rewards rate is the pace at which you earn from staking or another earn product, commonly expressed as an annualised percentage. It reflects things like network inflation, how many people are staking, and validator commission. Crucially, it is usually variable, not a fixed promise.

Understanding the rewards rate helps set expectations. If more people stake, each participant’s share of the fixed reward pool can shrink, lowering the rate. If fewer stake, the rate can rise. It is a moving target, not a savings account guarantee.

Example: a network shows a 6% rewards rate today, but if the total amount staked doubles next month, the rate might drift down to around 4% for everyone.

Safety note: a rewards rate is an estimate, not a contract. Any platform guaranteeing a fixed, unusually high rate regardless of market conditions should raise alarm, because sustainable rewards fluctuate with the network. Also remember that rewards are paid in the token, so the fiat value depends on price. Related terms include APR vs APY, staking, and validator.
