What is Transaction Hash?

A unique identifier for a specific blockchain transaction, used to look it up and confirm its status on a block explorer.

A transaction hash, sometimes called a TxID, is a unique fingerprint assigned to every blockchain transaction. It is a long string that lets anyone locate that exact transaction on a block explorer to check whether it succeeded, how much moved, and between which addresses.

This matters as proof and verification. When you send funds or claim a reward, the transaction hash is your receipt, letting you confirm the action really happened rather than relying on an app’s word.

Example: after claiming an airdrop, your wallet shows a transaction hash; you paste it into a block explorer and see the tokens successfully transferred to your address.

Safety note: a transaction hash proves a transaction occurred, but be careful how you use it. Scammers sometimes send you a real hash of a worthless or unrelated transfer to “prove” a fake payment, or ask you to share hashes as part of a con. Verify the actual amounts, tokens, and addresses on a genuine block explorer, not just that a hash exists. Related terms include block explorer, on-chain, wallet address, and confirmation.
