What is Points Program?

A points program tracks your activity and rewards it with points that, on their own, have no cash value. Projects use points to measure engagement and loyalty before, or instead of, launching a token. Points may later be converted into an airdrop, discounts, or other benefits, though nothing is guaranteed.

This matters because points have become a popular pre-token incentive. Accumulating them can position you for future rewards, but you should treat them as speculative until a project actually commits to converting them.

Example: a lending app awards points for supplying liquidity and referring friends; months later it announces that points holders will receive a portion of a governance token.

Safety note: because points feel like a scoreboard, scammers exploit the fear of missing out with fake “claim your points as tokens now” pages. Real points live inside the official app and are not claimed through random links or seed-phrase entry. Never let point-chasing push you into risky approvals or unvetted platforms.
