Cosmos Hub ATOM Staking
Any ATOM holder can delegate to one or more Cosmos Hub validators from a self-custody wallet.
The Cosmos Hub is the flagship chain of the Cosmos ecosystem, and its native token, ATOM, secures the network through delegated proof-of-stake. As the official documentation puts it, you delegate your ATOM to one or more validators to earn more ATOM. You keep custody of your tokens in your own wallet while your delegation helps validators produce blocks. The authoritative source is the Cosmos Hub documentation at docs.cosmos.network/hub, which links to a delegator FAQ, a security guide, and CLI instructions.
Rewards come from a mix of newly issued ATOM and transaction fees, distributed to delegators in proportion to their stake, minus the commission each validator charges. Because Cosmos uses a dynamic inflation model, the yield changes over time with network parameters and the total amount of ATOM staked, so it is genuinely variable rather than a fixed rate. The validator you choose matters: high commission or poor uptime reduces your net rewards.
Two risks deserve emphasis. First, Cosmos has slashing: if a validator you delegate to double-signs or is persistently offline, a portion of the delegated stake, including yours, can be slashed. Spreading delegations across reputable validators helps manage this. Second, undelegating triggers an unbonding period, historically about three weeks, during which your ATOM earns nothing and cannot be transferred. Plan your liquidity around that.
To participate, read the official delegator guides, use a self-custody Cosmos wallet you installed yourself, and delegate to validators with strong track records and reasonable commission. The Cosmos world sees frequent fake-airdrop and wallet-drainer scams, so treat unsolicited ‘claim ATOM’ messages as hostile. Genuine delegation never asks for your recovery phrase.
TokenSpin does not run this program; never share your seed phrase; never connect your wallet to a site you do not trust; not financial advice.
How to participate — via official sources only
- Read the official Cosmos Hub delegator documentation at docs.cosmos.network/hub.
- Review the delegator FAQ and delegator security pages before staking.
- Use a self-custody Cosmos wallet and delegate ATOM to one or more validators.
- Check each validator's commission and uptime to manage slashing risk.
- To exit, undelegate and wait out the unbonding period (historically around three weeks) during which funds do not earn and cannot be moved.
- Cosmos staking scams often impersonate wallets and 'ATOM airdrops'; only use official docs and wallets you installed yourself.
- Never reveal your seed phrase; validators and the Cosmos Hub never need it.
