EigenLayer introduced restaking, a mechanism that lets Ethereum stakers reuse their staked ETH (or supported liquid staking tokens) to help secure additional services built on top of Ethereum. In exchange for taking on extra duties, restakers can earn additional rewards beyond ordinary staking. The project has since expanded under the EigenCloud brand; the official site eigenlayer.xyz now redirects to eigencloud.xyz, and the documentation is at docs.eigencloud.xyz. EigenLayer remains the trust layer where users stake ETH and EIGEN to secure verifiable applications.

The concept is powerful but the risk is genuinely higher than plain staking, which is why this entry is marked high risk. When you restake, the same capital is pledged to secure multiple services, each of which can impose its own slashing conditions. That means a fault in any service you back could cost you part of your stake, on top of the base-layer slashing that already applies to Ethereum validators. You are also exposed to the smart-contract risk of the restaking protocol itself and of every operator or service you opt into.

Rewards are variable and uncertain. They depend on which services you help secure, their reward policies, and market conditions. There is no fixed yield, and any site advertising guaranteed high restaking returns should be treated as a warning sign rather than an opportunity.

If you explore restaking, do so only after you are comfortable with ordinary staking, read the official documentation carefully, and understand each service’s slashing terms before opting in. Use only the official app, verify contract addresses, and be aware that the EigenCloud rebrand is exactly the kind of moment scammers exploit with imitation domains. Only commit funds you can afford to lock and, in the worst case, lose.

How to participate — via official sources only

  1. Read the official documentation at docs.eigencloud.xyz to understand restaking and its added slashing conditions.
  2. Confirm you already understand and accept ordinary Ethereum staking risk before adding restaking on top.
  3. Use only the official app reached from eigenlayer.xyz (now part of EigenCloud) and verify contract addresses in the docs.
  4. Choose which operators or services (AVSs) to support only after researching their slashing terms.
  5. Understand withdrawal and escrow delays before committing, and never restake funds you cannot afford to lock or lose.
Watch out:
  • EigenLayer rebranded under EigenCloud and eigenlayer.xyz now redirects there; scammers exploit rebrands with look-alike 'restaking' sites.
  • Restaking multiplies risk: the same ETH can be slashed by multiple services, so treat high-yield promises as red flags. Never share your seed phrase.
