Lido is a liquid staking protocol for Ethereum. Instead of locking 32 ETH and running your own validator, you deposit any amount of ETH and receive stETH, a token that represents your staked ETH plus accruing rewards. The protocol has operated since 2020 and is one of the most widely integrated staking products in decentralized finance. The official home is lido.fi, with technical documentation at docs.lido.fi.

The appeal of liquid staking is flexibility: your stake keeps earning while the stETH token remains usable across many DeFi applications or can be sold on secondary markets. Under the hood, Lido delegates deposited ETH across a set of professional node operators, and staking rewards from those validators flow back to stETH holders. Your stETH balance rebases over time to reflect those rewards.

Rewards are variable and modest. At the time of review the site indicated an APR in the low single digits, and that figure moves with the same network conditions that affect all Ethereum staking. It is not a fixed or guaranteed yield. Liquid staking also layers additional risks on top of base staking: smart-contract bugs, validator-operator failures that could trigger slashing, and market risk that stETH trades at a discount to ETH during periods of stress, as has happened before.

If you use Lido, treat it as a long-term position, use only the official website, and verify contract addresses against the published documentation before approving anything. Be especially wary of search-engine ads and social posts pointing to imitation sites. Understand the withdrawal process before you commit funds, so you are not surprised by queue times or market discounts when you want out.

How to participate — via official sources only

  1. Read how liquid staking works on the official site lido.fi and the documentation at docs.lido.fi.
  2. Connect a wallet you control to the official Lido staking page and stake ETH to receive stETH.
  3. Understand that stETH balances rebase to reflect rewards, and that its market price can differ from ETH.
  4. Only use the official domain and double-check the contract addresses published in Lido's docs.
  5. Decide in advance how you will exit: unstake through Lido's withdrawal flow or sell stETH on a market you trust.
Watch out:
  • Look-alike domains and fake 'Lido' apps are common; only use lido.fi and links from its official documentation.
  • Nobody at Lido needs your seed phrase; a request for it is always a scam.
