What is Giveaway Scam?

A giveaway scam dangles free or multiplied crypto to bait victims. Classic versions impersonate a celebrity or project and promise that if you send some crypto to an address, you will get back double, or that a “giveaway” will send you free tokens once you connect your wallet or verify it. In reality, anything you send is simply stolen.

This matters because these scams flood social media, live-stream comments, and fake event pages, and the promise of easy money is designed to override caution.

Example: a video posing as a famous founder’s live stream urges viewers to send crypto to an address for a limited-time “2x giveaway”; everyone who sends receives nothing back.

Safety note: no legitimate giveaway ever asks you to send crypto first to receive more, and no real project multiplies coins you send to an address. Ignore “send to receive” offers entirely, never connect your wallet to a giveaway site or sign its requests, and remember that impersonated celebrities and verified-looking accounts are trivially faked.
