What is Token Generation Event (TGE)?
The moment a project first creates and releases its token to the public, often when airdrops unlock and trading first begins.
A Token Generation Event, or TGE, is the launch point when a project mints its token and makes it available. It is a big date on the calendar because airdrop claims often open around the TGE, vesting schedules start counting from it, and the first market price appears.
For reward hunters, the TGE is when patience pays off or when hype peaks. Many tokens are volatile at launch, so understanding the difference between what unlocks immediately and what stays locked under vesting helps you set realistic expectations.
Example: a project announces its TGE for a specific day; on that day, eligible users can claim part of their airdrop, while team and investor tokens remain locked for months and release gradually.
Safety note: TGEs attract impostors who publish fake claim links and look-alike domains hours before the real one. Always wait for the official announcement from a verified channel, and never rush a claim because a countdown timer is pressuring you. Related terms include vesting, claim window, and airdrop.
